Warm cinnamon rolls with brown butter glaze

I ain’t gonna lie to you — these cinnamon rolls are a guilty pleasure. You won’t find these gracing the cover of Weight Watchers, but hey — if you’re going go through the trouble of making cinnamon rolls from scratch, don’t you want ’em to be gobsmackingly good.

These are that good.

The cinnamon roll recipe is my fellow blogger Rebecca’s. Her directions are so perfect I’m just going to link to them so you don’t miss a word.

Rebecca likes a traditional cream cheese frosting, but I’m in love with this warm, toasty brown butter glaze slathered on top.

You can make these ahead of time and freeze completely cooked and glazed. Just let thaw and heat before serving. A perfect make-ahead treat for company!

Ingredients

I follow Rebecca's directions for making the dough in the breadmaker. It's so much easier! The only alteration I make is to use 2 tablespoons of cinnamon in the filling (vs. 3).

Cinnamon Rolls from Sweet Home

Brown Butter Glaze:

3 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Place the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Melt until golden brown and aromatic, swirling pan frequently. Set aside to cool for five minutes. Place cream cheese and confectioners sugar in a medium bowl. Add browned butter and beat with an electric mixer until blended. Add vanilla and beat until combined.

When cinnamon rolls come out of the oven, divide the glaze between the two pans, spreading it across the top of the rolls while hot. Let cool slightly before eating.

You can also cool completely and wrap and freeze these. Just let thaw and heat before serving!
