Malt Shoppe Krispie Treats

Holy Whoppers!!! These were sooooo good. I had a huge craving for anything malt flavored during my pregnancy and it has not lessened over the past 12 weeks.

(Sidenote: can you believe this little bugger is 12 weeks today? He is the happiest, smiley-est baby I’ve ever had and I adore him to pieces.)

Is it possible to sweat malt powder? Because I ate my weight in these bars yesterday and ran on the treadmill this morning because I felt guilty. I noticed my skin smelled like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Hmmmmmmm.

Anyhoo, these krispie treats get a double dose of malt — first with malt powder stirred into the ooey-gooey marshmallow melt and then with the addition of Whoppers candy. They are, undoubtedly, one of my favorite krispie treats ever.

1/4 cup butter

10 oz mini marshmallows

3/4 cup malted milk powder

4 cups crispy rice cereal

2 cup chopped malted milk balls (Whoppers)


Line a 8x8 pan with foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang on the sides. (This will make it easier to remove from pan and cut.) Spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray.

Melt the butter in a large stock pot set over medium-low heat. Add all of the marshmallows and stir the mixture constantly until the marshmallows are completely melted. Stir in malted milk powder.

Remove from heat and add the cereal, using a rubber spatula or wooden spoon to coat the cereal evenly with the marshmallow mixture. Stir in malted milk balls. Spread the mixture in an even layer in the prepared baking pan. Let cool for 30 minutes before slicing.
