This concludes my January full of Crock Pot recipes. But what a way to go…homemade bread in a Crock-Pot? Yes you can.
I’m not normally a fan of doing things in a crock that could just as easily be done in an oven. But this one is so stinkin’ easy, and would be perfect for 1) when oven space is tight and/or 2) when it’s too hot to turn on the oven. And the bread’s texture is really, really yummy from being cooked in a moist crock.
(Note: does moist crock sound kind of vulgar to you, too? Let’s pretend I never said it.)
This makes a small loaf – enough for 3 to 4 people. I have a huge crock pot and it works fine, but you can easily double it if you have a 6-quart like me.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon (1 packet) yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup warm water
1 tablespoon oil
Sesame seeds for garnish, if desired
Instructions
Add yeast, sugar, salt, and flour to a food processor fitted with a blade attachment. Process on low for 1 minute. Slowly add water, then oil. Process until dough is no longer sticking to sides, and forms a ball. Remove dough, form into ball. Place in greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Grease crock with butter to prevent sticking. Form dough into a round mass and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Place lid on crock pot and cook on low for 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours (check occasionally as all crocks cook differently).
Bread is ready when the crust is golden brown and delicious!!
