For the Grown Ups: Pumpkin Pie Martinis

So, I’m opening myself up for public shaming here, but a lot of the parents in our neighborhood take their kids trick or treating while sipping a glass of wine or beer.

It’s also not uncommon to come in for a glass of wine and a few nibbles when you get to a friends house. We live in a neighborhood FULL of kids, so Halloween is one big, long social event that starts at 6 p.m. and doesn’t end until close to midnight. My house is a revolving door of parents and kids all night, and this year I thought I’d dream up a special cocktail to have on hand for our friends that stop by.

My girlfriends and I are big martini fans, so a fall-themed martini sounded perfect. I’ve purposely stayed away from pumpkin martinis for a while, because pumpkin-flavored liqueurs are usually cloyingly sweet. But when I ran across this recipe that used actual pumpkin, I knew it had potential. Paired with a touch of maple syrup and a cinnamon/ginger/clove spice combination, this martini is perfect for fall.
