Red, White & Blue Lemonade

Holy firecrackers, this stuff is good. It’s like liquid crack with a patriotic twist. I doubled the recipe and made a big pitcher of it on Sunday. I hid it in the fridge in our garage so no one would drink it before I could get a picture. I went to grab it today and there was exactly enough to fill the two glasses you see in the picture. (And I had to add a lot of ice to stretch it.) So just know this will go fast.

(Also know this is excellent as an adult beverage with a wee bit of vodka thrown in. A little birdie told me…)

If your kids aren’t fond of fruit floating around in their lemonade, you could put a big batch of this in one of those clear drink dispensers for the 4th. It would filter all the fruit out, but keep the flavor and still look really pretty.

p.s. You can make this a day or two in advance and let all the flavors get happy together. Just store in the fridge. This is also really good with LIMES!

9 cups water
5 lemons
3/4 cup sugar (add more if needed, but start here)
1 pkg blueberries, washed
1 pint strawberries, washed and stems removed
Ice

Directions:

Fill a pitcher with water and squeeze in the lemon juice from about 5 lemons. Add in the sugar and blueberries. Stir until sugar is dissolved.

With clean hands, squeeze and mash the strawberries in the bowl. They don’t need to be baby-food consistency, just break ’em up a little. Then, add that bowl of squished strawberries to the lemonade, stir to combine. Add ice when ready to serve.
